It’s unbelievable Teaching here!

Well this is the first of a several part series of entries into this Blog. Hopefully I will have time to be able post one each day about this kindergarten that I am working at currently.

One of the most interesting things that happens is the way schools tried to promote how they teach students. They also try to make their school look as if it is the best anywhere in the world. What school would not do that, to try to make their school look like it is the best in the world? The only problem is if you're going to say and show how you plan to treat that children then you need to do exactly what you say.

Case in point, I have an advertising brochure from a particular school. In this advertising brochure towards the end of the brochure they have a picture of all the food that the children eat in this kindergarten. Now, I do know for a fact and can obtain photographic evidence that the children do not receive this food every day. However, the brochure would lead you to believe that this is what the children eat every day.

Thus by using this type of advertisement the kindergarten is falsely telling the parents that their children will be treated with great and wonderful food. When in fact the food does not even a look like that in the brochure, but that's not the worst of it.

The teachers that take care of the kids, and teach the kids are not treated very well. Humm you might ask what are you trying to say? Well it's simple; the teachers that work in this kindergarten get the leftovers. Meaning the food that the children do not eat that day will be given to the teachers for their dinner at the end of the day.

The sad part is these teachers put in long hours every day and yet they do not get good quality food. As one teacher put it "The children get much better food than the teachers". But, the children still do not get what is advertised in the brochure by the kindergarten.

Of course, there are many things that this school does that are not good at all and over the course of time I hope to be able to inform you about this school.

Now you might be wondering what the name of the school. Well, I'm sorry to say that I must leave that to the next entry then I will divulge the name of the school. For I hope to get your ears perked so that you will come back for more. :)

Those of you who are coming to teach English as a second language can be up to date as to what type of food you will have to eat. I hope that I will be able to post photos of what is served to the children and what is served to the teachers along with what they advertise in their brochure. It is my wish to give you the information to you will not get from the person that is offering you the job.

Probably one of the most interesting and funny things of all is that when the parents come for parents day then and only then does the food that they show in the brochures come out. Otherwise, the food that the children eat is a little less expensive than the food they advertise in their brochure. Food for thought, "No pun intended"

In the next entry of this multipart entry I will start at the beginning and worked my way to present day. Telling you the good and bad of this school, and believe me there is more bad than good in the school.

Now not only will I post about this school I will post about others. Some that I have worked for and some that friends of mine have worked for, so please keep reading.

If you have a statement or comment or even a question. Please do not hesitate to post a comment in this Blog. I really want to hear your feedback on this information.

If you're a teacher that is planning on coming to teach English as a second language I want to hear comments from you and things that you might like to know that you didn't know before. So please those teachers that are coming to teach English as a second language send in your comments.

Addendum to unbelievable Teaching!

Well, I would like to update this entry that I posted last night.

In the posting last night I stated that the kids always get good food but they never get the food that is in the brochure. The food in the brochure is much better than the daily food that the children get to eat. And most certainly better than the food the teachers get every day.

Now to my surprise, the food that the children received today was one is in the brochure. Now if you’re wondering why the school gave the children this food? Well it’s because the parents came to the school today to see one of the teachers teach their class.

So, I guess that the reason that the children got this food today is because the parents were there in the school did not want them to see that they don’t give their children the food that they say they give in the brochure.

When the most interesting thing that I find out about this school and it’s way of teaching children, is the fact that they make well over 60,000 U.S. dollars a month. Now I don’t know about you but 60,000 U.S. dollars a month is quite a lot of money. In one year the school can make well over ¾ million dollars.

With that amount of money, why is it so hard for them to give the children the food that they show in the brochure?

Talk about being greedy, they would rather keep the money and spend it on themselves (by this I mean the people that own and manage the foundation, upper management) than to use the money where it should go which is too take care of the children in feed them proper food or at least the food that they show in their brochure.

One thing is for shore and I’m sorry if some of you to get offended by this statement but unfortunately when you take a step back and look at what I’m about to say it’s true.

Please Standby!

Please forgive the delay, my computer has a cold.

I would have posted last night but I was reloading my computer. It is funny I have the new Windows Vista and it is not any better than Windows XP, or Windows 98 when I used Windows 2000 I never had a problem. I could even try to make it crash and no matter what I did it kept right on going.

It kinda reminds me of the old Timex Commerical, "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking" and the old Windows 2000 could do just that. Why would Microsoft decide to change a good thing I will never know!!

Anyways, hopefully by tonight I will have the computer all patched up!

Then I will post the first of several postings. These postings concern how a school called "Jing Jing Kinder & Ed Happyland"and how they like to abuse its foreign Teachers, and its local Teachers.

So keep looking you dont want to miss this at all, it might even save you from falling into thier trap!!

Welcome to ESL watchdogs, first posting.

Welcome to ESL watchdogs first posting. We at ESL watchdog are proud to bring you a web site that is designed to help foreign Teachers that teach English as a second language in other countries.

In this Blog posting I hope to give you a little insight as to what ESL watchdog can offer you and help you in understanding the different cultures, the different laws, and the different ways things are done in the particular country that you are in.

Over the next several weeks we hope to better inform you about that country that you are in, so that you will have a better understanding of some of the things that you will be dealing with in that country.

The Countries that we will be reporting on are:

  • Korea
  • Japan
  • Plus other Asian Countries

We hope that by being able to supply you with the necessary information and background. You will be able to understand the different ways an employer in another country treats you. Of course this website is not meant to scare you off, it is meant however to better inform you so that you can deal with a day to day activities, and problem that arise in other countries. There are some however players in different countries that take advantage of the fact you do not know the laws in the country that you are teaching in.

Unfortunately in many countries, that will try to abuse your labor by either working you long hours or telling you that you must work these long hours because it is the law and you have signed a contract. Other problems are compensation for your services, many employers try to shortchange you as the teacher or in some worst cases not pay you at all. This is one reason why ESL watchdog was established, to help foreign teachers from other countries that teach English as a second language.

Our hopes at ESL watchdog are that we can better inform you so that you have the knowledge as to what your rights are so that you are not taken advantage of as a teacher.

ESL watchdog will have a website set up in the coming days you'll be able to go to this web site to find information on Visas, the current laws in that particular country you are teaching in, possible job listings for English teachers in a particular country or countries, along with help for you the English teacher with teaching plans, worksheets, games, etc.

However our biggest reason for starting ESL watchdog is to allow the teachers to come to a web site where they can look up information on the company that they are about to be employed with, the information that can be found will be their track record of that particular company or school.

ESL watchdog creating a blacklist of the company's and schools and that are terrible to work for "IE they do not pay you all of your salary, the work atmosphere is hostile towards the foreign English teacher, company's or schools that do not take care of their obligations thus taking money that the English teacher worked for by giving some reason that they had done wrong and making the English teacher pay money."

This is the main reason that ESL watchdog was started, we want to have a place where Teachers can go to post WARNINGS about companies and schools that cheat Teachers out of their money. You as the teacher work hard for your money, so why should you allow them to take your money.

That is why we are asking you keep checking back from time to time as the site is being built. There will be an area for you to post comments, thoughts, and your horror stories and experiences, be it good experiences or bad experiences, we want to know them. That way, we can build a list of the good companies and schools to work for and a list of the bad companies and school.

The web address for ESL watchdog is: WWW.ESLWATCHDOG.COM

You can also check in with this Blog to find information, you can also post a comment to an article on the Blog. This Blog will be updated frequently and we encourage you to read this Blog along with posting comments two any articles. We also encourage you two inform other teachers that you know are teaching English as a second language two visit the site. So that we can spread the word among the foreign teachers that teach English as a second language, so that teachers can be better informed.
